Possibly one of the most exciting Foodie things happening in the area at the moment, is the launch of the incredible Mac on Tap. Locally grown Ballito Macadamias harvested in their prime and Cold pressed just outside of Durban, before making the short trip back to the area for our culinary pleasure.

Tucked away in the beautiful Karibu Garden Nursery, within the newly opened The Mill Cafe, you will find shelves adorned with glass bottles full of this incredible, local Gem. If it wasn’t impressive enough, you can now refill your glass bottles directly from the designated Mac on Tap Refill Barrel. Now that is a brilliant concept. More Oil and less waste!

This product is 100% pure and unrefined. Absolutely nothing but good old macadamia nuts goes in to each and every bottle. Cold pressed in the exact same way as some of the top quality Olive Oils. This is absolute music to my ears. With all these gorgeous macadamia Nut trees surrounding our drive through to Umhlali, I have been impatiently waiting to get my hands on a product like this. And finally… here it is.

So why is the excitement level so high? Here are a few of the many reasons I use this product:

Every incredible spoonful contains vitamins, minerals, and essential fatty acids, which are excellent for maintaining a healthy heart, mind, skin, hair, and body.

It can be used in cooking, baking, frying, and in dressings and sauces. Many commercial cooking oils are very unhealthy for you, which means that the simple switch to macadamia oil will boost your health with minimal effort and maximum flavor.

Antioxidant Potential: Research has revealed that macadamia nut oil contains a high level of antioxidants, including tocotrienols, which can have a powerful effect on the overall health of the body.

Good Fats : Macadamia nut oil contains oleic acid and contains 80% monounsaturated fats, no trans fat, and about 3% polyunsaturated fat

Rich Flavour: Due to its buttery, nutty flavor, it often is used to replace olive oil in baking or in salad dressings.

Heat Stable: The high smoke point of 400-450 degrees Fahrenheit makes it the perfect oil for high heat cooking—i ts fatty acid composition stays intact when frying and baking at high temperatures.

A good Vegetable Oil: The nutritional benefits of this oil include magnesium and healthy fatty acids and a shelf life of 1-2 years, making it a healthy and sensible cooking alternative to unhealthy highly Processed vegetable oils.

Unrefined with No Chemical Processing: Macadamia nuts are one of the most fat-derived energy dense nuts available—therefore their oil is often compared to olive oils simple production process, making it one of the more naturally processed oils.

Heart Healthy: The high oleic acid content in macadamia nut oil (even higher than olive oil) makes it important for re-balancing your cholesterol levels and actually reducing the amount of triglycerides in the blood.

How wonderful to have such an incredible alternative to the highly processed Vegetable Oils on the supermarket shelves. With such a focus now on nutritional health and an ever growing concern for what we consume, it is a breath of fresh air to have another local Farmer supplying the growing demand for quality.
