I recently had the pleasure of sitting down with Nikki Chantler, who runs the Little Linc Play Centre at the popular Linc Church Campus in Salt Rock. Little Linc takes kids aged 18 months to 4 years and Nikki and her two assistants make sure that between the 3 of them, the kids stay happy and stimulated throughout the day. Although the Little Linc team emphasise the importance of play in everything they do, they do follow an established curriculum to ensure the kids receive a full and well-rounded pre-school experience.
Nikki herself qualified with an Honours degree in Human Movement Sciences which she says has helped her a lot in working with kids, and developing their fine motor skills, co-ordination as well as things like running, riding a bike and balancing. Nikki is part of the Heenan family, a very well-known family here on the North Coast and before she joined Little Linc, she completed a post-graduate teaching degree and went on to she teach at Ashton College for 2 years.
As we chat further, Nikki and I discovered that we are amost exactly the same age and were able to reminisce about the old days in Ballito and how it is so interesting that many people of our generation have moved away but are slowly starting to move back to the area. Nikki and her sister Tes run Little Linc with passion and heart, the core tenets of their school are bravery, kindness and honesty and they try to instil these characteristics in all the kids that come to their school – whether it be playing, learning or interacting with their peers.
If you would like more information on the school or possibly enrolling your child or children, Little Linc is having their next open day at Linc Church on the 21st of October. You can get in touch with Nikki via the Little Linc Play Centre Facebook page HERE
