A long weekend of firsts!
I get it “ you’ve been working ridiculously hard and you’ve earned the right to put your feet up in a permanent position for the long weekend. Or You can challenge yourself to a weekend of firsts and make it a (yet another) long-weekend to remember! If I were saying this standing right in front of you, I’d probably have to duck as the couch pillows or leftover pizza comes flying at my head. No matter, I have the protection of a blog post to get my point across!
As you might have guessed, I can’t remain in one place for very long. I’ve got this idea of continuously exploring and seeing every inch of my beautiful planet; and this urge doesn’t stop when I’m back home in Ballito. If you’re thinking my weekend of firsts involved a new type of shooter or restaurant, I apologise right now cause that wasn’t the vibe this weekend. I wanted to seize every day and do something out of the ordinary whilst keeping my excursions limited to day trips and not overnight stays.
- I took my exercise outdoors. I’m an active person that loves the outdoors but I’m usually doing yoga with Megs at the Litchi Orchard or burning some calories at Bob’s Boot Camp. Allowing my instructors the weekend off, my friend and I took to the streets, promenade and the dreaded Leonora Hill for 7kms of fast paced goodness! This would already be a OMG you’re doing this on a weekend’ moment, but I took it to the next level and made sure I got down to the beach before sunrise TWICE in one weekend!
- I finally went to the Shongweni Market. Never in my 28 years have I gotten up at 5:15am to make it to the Shongweni market before the crowds come in! By the time 10am rolled in it was far too busy, so I’m happy with my puffy-eyed decision to get up SUPER early. For those that haven’t been, GO. There is fresh produce, one of a kind décor pieces, jewelry, clothing, the yummiest food and even the SPCA book sale.
- I went in a microlight and didn’t vomit. Probably the most ironic coincidence; I’m terrified of flying. I know, I travel all the time so why aren’t I used to it?’ and I have NO idea why the mere thought of being in the air skyrockets my anxiety. The wonderful Ron van Breda, from ComeFly Microlight and Pilot Centre, took me along our beautiful coastline up to Princess Grant. It was incredible and after the butterflies (they felt like fish eagles!) subsided, I couldn’t help but feel elated being in a small contraption up in the sky. It’s the most exhilarating feeling and I would recommend it to everyone!
- I didn’t cheat once! Long weekends in the past usually meant pizza, chocolate and all the other goodies that make our mouths water. This time round, I got my weekends worth of fresh juices from The Juice Kitchen, vegetarian meals from Health @ Tiffany’s and I sipped on lemon water throughout the days. I’m currently writing this on Tuesday morning back at work’ and I actually feel well rested and rejuvenated after a long-weekend of healthy living and exercise “ a definite first and it feels GREAT!
Share you tips! What did you get up to this long weekend that you think I should try? Let me know in the comments below “I’d love to hear from you!
Love from,
Lamb xx
